Service Area: Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania, Stafford and Ladysmith.

Each year 15,000 children in the United States are diagnosed with cancer. This devastating diagnosis turns the entire family’s world upside down.

There are several Fredericksburg area organizations helping local families impacted by pediatric cancer and raising money for childhood cancer research. At this time only 3% of the National Cancer Institute Budget goes toward pediatric cancer research.

Two such groups are the Strong for Dom Foundation and the Fairy Godmother Project.

Fairy Godmother Project and Grass Roots

Many years ago, we came across an article in the Free Lance Star newspaper about 2 local women who were starting a charitable service called the Fairy Godmother Project. The organization helps local families of children with cancer.

Fairy Godmother Project has 3 programs:

Family Services Program– helps the family with their day to day needs during treatment, such as meals, lawn care, cleaning, and gas cards.

Photography Program– provides free professional family portraits.

Stargazers Program– provides help and support to families facing the end of their child’s life.

We were moved by their story and saddened that the need for their organization even existed. We knew immediately that we wanted to be involved. We called the founder of this wonderful organization, Andie McConnel and offered her the services of Grass Roots. Andie has inspired us to “Help Give the Gift of Time.” Over the years we have provided lawn care, free of charge, to many of the families in the Fairy Godmother Project. It has been such an honor to help these incredibly strong families during such a difficult time.
If you are looking for a deserving local organization to donate time and/or money to, we respectfully ask that you consider the Fairy Godmother Project, http://www.fairygodmotherproject.org and The Strong for Dom Foundation http://www.strongfordom.org.
